The Clavin Funeral Home is presently owned and operated by J. Peter Clavin. (son of James R.) Working with his sons Matthew E. Clavin and Stephen A. Clavin, they represent the fourth and fifth generations of the Clavin family carrying on a great tradition of service that has spanned over 130 years.

J. Peter Clavin
J. Peter Clavin, a life long resident of Bay Ridge, was born on November 15, 1953 to Marjorie Rice and James R. Clavin. He is the fourth generation Clavin carrying on the family owned and operated Joseph P. Clavin Sons, Inc. Funeral Home.
J. Peter Clavin is a graduate of Fort Hamilton High School, Bay Ridge Class of 1971. In 1973, he graduated from the State University of New York at Farmingdale and went on to continue his professional education at the Simmons Institute of Preparation in Syracuse, New York.
Peter married the former Mary Carroll in 1981 and they have four children: Joseph, Matthew, Stephen and Amy.
Peter is actively involved in the community. He is past president of the following organizations: Cathedral Club of Brooklyn, Lions Club of Bay Ridge, Men's Club of Bay Ridge, Bayfort Benevolent Association, Sons of the American Legion, 12:30 Club of Bay Ridge and the Downtown Speakers Association. Peter is also the Acting Adjutant of the Michael E. Clavin Post #1408 of the American Legion.
In addition, Peter is a member of the Municipal Club of Brooklyn, Emerald Association of Long Island, Knights of Columbus - Thomas Dongan Council #1251, St. Patrick's Society of Brooklyn, and the Catholic Cemeteries Association. In 1993, he was knighted as a Knight of the Holy Sepulcher at Saint Patrick's Cathedral in Manhattan.
Peter has been honored by the Catholic Guardian Society, the New York City Police Department Sergeant's Benevolent Association & Detective's Endowment Association, the United States Submarine Veterans of World War II, and was the Lion's Club Man of the Year. He was Co-Grand Marshal of the Bay Ridge St. Patrick's Day Parade in 1998 and the Grand Marshal of the 1999 Ragamuffin Day Parade.
The Salvation Army's Brooklyn Advisory Board honored Peter as their Man of the Year in 1999 and in 2000 the Advocates for Services for the Multi-Handicapped, Inc. honored Peter as their Advocate of the Year. In 2008, Peter was honored by the Bay Ridge Community Council with their prestigious Civic Award for unwavering service, commitment, and loyalty to the community he is proud to reside and work in. In 2011, Peter and his wife Mary were honored by the Guild For Exceptional Children by receiving their Humanitarian Award.

Stephen Clavin
Stephen A. Clavin was born on June 1, 1990 to Mary Carroll and J. Peter Clavin. He, along with his brother Matthew, represent the fifth generation of the Clavin family continuing the family tradition of serving our community with dignity and respect. Stephen has three siblings, Joseph, Matthew and Amy.
Stephen A. Clavin is a graduate of Xavier High School, Class of 2008. In Stephen’s senior year, he was presented the “X” Block Award for his accomplishments on the school’s varsity golf team. In 2007 Stephen traveled to Mobile, Alabama with some classmates following Hurricane Katrina to help in the cleanup efforts. In 2012, Stephen graduated from Saint Joseph’s University with a Bachelor’s degree in finance. In 2011, Stephen traveled to Wheeling, West Virginia in conjunction with Habitat for Humanity and Appalachian Experience to help the underprivileged in the Appalachian Region. Upon his graduation, Stephen began his career as an accountant at Mutual of America Life Insurance Company.
After some years at Mutual of America, Stephen decided to attain his professional license for funeral directing. Stephen graduated in 2015 from the American Academy McAllister Institute of Funeral Service, and was honored to be the recipient of the William F. Flooks, Sr. Memorial Award. In 2018, Stephen was honored as Deputy Grand Marshal of the Bay Ridge Saint Patrick's Day Parade.
Stephen is a member of the Knights of Columbus - Thomas Dongan Council #1251, Saint Patrick’s Society of Brooklyn and Shore View Golf Club, America's oldest public golf league.
