Cemetery: Long Island National Cemetery (Farmingdale, NY)

Veronika was born in Bronx, NY where she loved walking to the Botanical Gardens and the Zoo.  She tendered her own victory garden on the roof of her home.  Before her high school years, the family moved to Bay Ridge, Brooklyn with her mom Mildred, her father George and her brothers and sisters, Louise, Mildred, George, Bernard and Hubert. She didn't want to move of course but Mom has always been a trouper and adjusted.   She always made the best of everything.  She was very crafty and a bit of a tomboy.  She liked go carting in the street with the boys and enjoyed playing all the other games they did. She loved interior design and she sewed as well as any professional seamstress out there. She was always so elegant and classy wearing skirts and high heels every day. When she finished school, she enjoyed traveling and loved working on Wall Street (Phelps Dodge at 40 Wall Street) and also in Union Square but Phelps Dodge was her favorite company. She loved the work and the office atmosphere, she made lots of friends, and enjoyed the wonderful dinners they would go to after work.  She was very charismatic, funny and didn't realize how funny she was and she was one smart cookie. She had a very adventurous life, dancing with Jimmy Hoffa at her father's union event and meeting Bugsy Siegel's gang in Las Vegas.  She saw bull fighting in Mexico and was there in Times Square for VJ Day trying to avoid being kissed.

Then she met the love of her life, our dad, James B. Walsh, and they married.  She had said that she always wanted 3 children, no more and no less and that's what she got, she got Bernadette, Kathleen and James.  After the passing of her husband Lt. James B. Walsh FDNY, she continued to dedicate her life to us.  We were very blessed to have her as our mother.

Veronika is survived by her children, Bernadette, Kathleen and James.  Her son-in- law James who she loved like a son. Her sister-in law Marion whom she loved and adored, grandsons Russell and wife Anna, James and wife Emma and Jonathan and wife Christine, her great grandchildren Stella, Savi, Jack, Nicholas and Eliza. Her nieces and nephews Trish, Marianne, Carolyn, Christine, John, Noreen, Karl, Karen, Gerald, Raymond and sister-in-law Gloria.

Rest in peace Mom, with all of our love forever and ever.
