Theresa "Terry" Ann Chieffo passed away peacefully at Calvary Hospital in New York City on Tuesday, September 14th, 2021. She was a proud ninety years old and a life-long resident of Brooklyn, New York. Terry was born in Brooklyn on August 5th, 1931 to Frank and Josephine Noce, also from Brooklyn, New York. She is survived by daughter Vera Chieffo of Brooklyn, New York, son Salvatore "Sal" Chieffo of Brooklyn, New York, partner Polly Nugent of Brooklyn, New York, grandson George Chieffo of Richmond, Virginia, granddaughter Jackie Chieffo of Brooklyn, New York, mother of George and Jackie Carolyne Chieffo, sister Ana Cammarato of Port St. Lucie, Florida, numerous nieces and nephews, grand-dogs Lou and Valentine, and many cherished friends and neighbors. Terry is predeceased by her late husband Richard "Dick" James Chieffo (1990) and her granddaughter Theresa Chieffo (1987).
Terry grew up in Bedford Stuyvesant, Brooklyn and she worked in her parents' local candy store from a young age. She married her late husband Dick Chieffo on April 11th,1953. She and Dick raised their children Vera and Sal in Flatbush. Terry worked in the cafeterias of Brooklyn and Kingsboro Colleges for many years; she enjoyed this work, and her student customers loved her for her kind and caring nature. Terry was fun! She had a great guffaw, she loved to sing and dance and she had a knack for 'naming that tune;' she could do so in just a few notes! She loved David Muir, James Franco, General Hospital, and to go out to eat Italian food. In general, Terry's life revolved around her beloved children, grandchildren and their extended families. She was proud of her son Sal's graduation from college, hard-working career and devoted fatherhood, and she delighted in her shared spirituality with Vera. She was grateful that Vera came home to take care of her eight years ago. Terry was a very happy and involved grandma. Jackie and George remained a great pride and joy of her heart throughout her lifetime, and her home was filled with photos of them at various stages of life. Terry was also deeply spiritual. In her words, she loved God. She drew great comfort from her faith, and she had images and statuettes of saints and angels all over her home. It was very important to Terry to do her special version of morning prayers daily; she spent hours praying for her family, extended family, and even kind acquaintances. She traveled geographically in her prayers, making sure to remember who to pray for by where they lived, so she wouldn't forget anyone. Terry prayed for store owners, cashiers, doctors and medical professionals alike who she met in her day to day living. One of Terry's favorite sayings was, "With God, all things are possible." She will be dearly missed.
The funeral mass will take place on Thursday, September 16th at 10:00 a.m. at St. Finbar Church - 138 Bay 20th Street, Brooklyn, NY 11214
For your safety and the safety of Terry's friends and family, please wear masks over mouth and nose while in the church proper.
