Obituary

Stephen Finn, a devoted husband, father, brother, and public servant, passed away peacefully on January 17, 2026, surrounded by his family.

Stephen is survived by his beloved wife, Elaine; his daughter, Mary Smith (Shawn), and their children, Emily and Lloyd; his son, Frank Finn (Annie), and their son, Kellen; and his siblings, Maureen LaGreca (Bob, much-loved brother-in-law), Thomas Finn (Diana), and Veronica O'Connor.

A lifelong resident of Brooklyn, Stephen was a graduate of St. Rose of Lima, LaSalle Academy, and John Jay College. He dedicated 20 years of service to the New York City Police Department, retiring with the rank of Sergeant from the 72nd Precinct. During his career and post-retirement, he served on the Board of Directors for the Sergeant's Benevolent Association.

In his second career, Stephen founded and served as president of SGT's Promotions, building the business from the ground up. Through his work, he continued to serve his community with the same generosity and commitment that defined his years on the job.

Stephen touched countless lives across Brooklyn and beyond. He will be remembered for his loyalty, work ethic, generosity, and devotion to family. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

Steve had that Brooklyn gift, he never met a stranger. He was a great storyteller who could make friends in a phone booth and leave with their life story. In his honor, have a cold glass of chardonnay and share your favorite story about Steve.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the American Cancer Society in Stephen's memory. For acknowledgement, forward e-mail to maryfinnsmith@gmail.com
