Robert F. (Bob) Smith passed away peacefully on December 22, 2021 at the Eger Nursing Home and Rehabilitation Center. He was the loving husband of Helen M. Smith who predeceased him on January 21, 2013, the father of Christopher (Karen), Gayle Norton (Christopher) and Robert (Susan) and the proud grandfather of Victoria, Michael (Paige), Brendan (Megan) Norton, Caroline Norton, Timothy, Ronan, Shannon, and Brody.

Bob was born in Brooklyn on October 22, 1933, the son of John and Geraldine Smith. He graduated from Good Shepherd Elementary School and James Madison High School. He played baseball for the Cadets BBC in Marine Park, winning the AAABA National Tournament in 1950 and 1951 in Johnstown, PA, and was selected to play in the prestigious Journal American All Star Game, known as "Brooklyn vs. The World," at the Polo Grounds. Shortly after the game, he was signed to a minor league contract by the Cleveland Indians. His baseball career was cut short due to his enlistment in the U.S. Army in 1952.

After his honorable discharge from the Army, he was employed by the United States Brewers Foundation and then spent more than thirty years as an executive for KLM Royal Dutch Airlines.

He founded the sports program at Good Shepherd Parish where he also served as a Trustee. He was a longtime member of the Breezy Point Surf Club with his family where he served as Chairman of the Club's Board of Governors. Bob was Chairman of the Xaverian Circle as well as the Bishop Kearney High School parents' organization.

He lived his life for others and spent countless hours with his children and grandchildren always being sure to attend their many baseball, softball, soccer, and basketball games and equestrian events.
