IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Richard
Mahany
April 14, 1935 – January 23, 2023
Richard Mahany, age 87, passed away at home on January 23, 2023.
Richard was pre-deceased by the love of his life - his beautiful and loving wife Berit Unni (Eriksen) Mahany, his brother Ronald Mahany and sister Doris Allen.
He is survived by his 4 children Unni Mahany and her long-time partner Thomas Cadawas, Karin Mahany Poggio and her long-time partner John Keller, Erik Mahany and Mark Mahany, 3 grandchildren Alyssa Novielli and her husband Joseph, Erik Mahany and his wife Alice, and Angelo Mahany, and 6 great-grandchildren, Benjamin Mahany, Nicholas Novielli, Lucas Mahany, Jacqueline Novielli, Charles Mahany, and Lily Mahany. He is also survived by his sister Virginia Nickelsen and his nephew Clifford Allen Jr and niece Barbara Kelleher who were close in age and were more like brother and sister to him.
Richard worked as a printer following high school. After serving in the United States Army, he became the top salesman for Heidelberg Eastern, introducing their machines to the NYC area and earning many accolades and awards for selling printing and binding machinery over the years.
Family and friendship were most important to Richard. He was a great provider for his family and instilled respect and values in his children. He loved the outdoors, and nature, and vacationed with his family every year at Minerva Lake in the Adirondacks, fishing, swimming, hiking, cooking over an open fire, and more. He loved watching movies and listening & singing to old music. An avid history buff, he loved the Old West. He loved working with his hands. Richard could create or repair anything...Build or fix a computer. Home repairs and renovations. Electrical repairs. Car repairs.
Richard was competitive and played paddleball and pickleball for the win! In his later years he discovered the Fort Hamilton Senior Center where he made countless friends. He introduced the game of pickleball to the Center and spent much of his time there.
He was proud to be a Veteran. He loved America, his friends and his family and will be missed by all.
In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to a worthy Veteran's cause in Richard's name.
