Obituary

Raymond S. Allert, fondly known as Ray, passed away peacefully on October 19th 2024. Ray was born in Dyker Heights Brooklyn on September 2nd 1956 to the late August and Helen Allert. After graduating from Bishop Ford Central Catholic High School, Ray went on to earn a bachelor's and master's degree in Special Education from Brooklyn College. He ran track all throughout his High School and College years and ran the NYC Marathon in 1983, completing the race in 3 hours and 17 minutes. He devoted 32 years of his life to teaching special needs children in the NYC Department of Education and taught summer school every year to ensure his family never went without.

Ray's greatest joy in life was unequivocally his family, husband to Darzellia (Arnette), dad to Stephanie and Monique and grandpa to Brionna, his love truly knew no bounds. A devoted and selfless family man, Ray was known to take photos at every event, no matter how big or small. He left his family with thousands of photos to memorialize their most special moments in life. A true "road tripper" Ray spent countless summers in late August driving his girls 13 hours to and from the tiny town of Lane, South Carolina where they would visit his wife's family. It was on those long drives and in that small town where some of their most fond memories were made.

Ray helped raise his granddaughter Brionna like a third daughter, in many ways she became the most important part of his life, especially in his final years. He always referred to her as "a gift from God."

Ray enjoyed writing poetry, taking photos, being silly, watching track and field and talking endlessly to friends and strangers alike. He loved the weather channel and prayed for snow every winter. He took an active interest in anything his daughters enjoyed and truly devoted his life to them.

In his final act of selflessness Ray became an organ doner, successfully gifting organs and tissue to those in need. His donation has ensured his legacy will live on, not only through his daughters, but also through the many recipients who will be forever impacted through their improved quality of life.

Ray leaves behind his heartbroken children; Stephanie, her husband Kareem; Monique, her partner Adam; Brionna and his cherished wife Arnette. He also leaves behind his beloved siblings; Ellen, Alice, Billy, John and Mary along with many cousins, nieces and nephews who he loved dearly. Lastly, he leaves behind the much-loved family dog, Chase, who he affectionately referred to as, his only son.
