Raffaele "Ralph" "Ralphie" Alio, 47, of Bay Ridge, Brooklyn, passed away peacefully, leaving behind a legacy of love, strength, and devotion. Born in Brooklyn, New York, on January 5th, 1978, Raffaele was a proud Brooklyn native whose life reflected hard work, family values, and a heart as steady as his hands.
Raffaele dedicated his professional life to serving the city he loved. He began his career as a mechanic with the New York City Department of Sanitation, where he honed his skills and developed an extraordinary work ethic. Seeking growth and wanting to further his career, he later joined the New York City Transit Authority as a Chassis Maintainer (Mechanic) with the MTA. For 18 years, he worked at the West Farms Bus Depot in the Bronx, where he became known as the "best engine mechanic" in the depot. As the head engine technician, specializing in diagnostics and electrical repairs, he was the person everyone relied on. The younger mechanics looked up to him for his sharp mind, technical mastery, and willingness to teach. He was a proud active member of MaBSTOA (Manhattan and Bronx Surface Transit Operating Authority).
Born to the late Raffaele George Alio and late Elizabeth "Patty" Breen, Raffaele was a devoted husband, father, brother, uncle, and friend. His greatest joy in life was his family. He is survived by his loving wife, Maureen, and his two beautiful daughters, Jaylynn and Jaymie, and their mother Amy Sellitti. He is also survived by his sisters, Malissa and Alicia, his niece, Brianna Silva, and his nephews, James Silva , Dylan and Daniel Munno, as well as his grandniece, Nova Silva and many loving family members and friends.
Raffaele's legacy of kindness, strength, generosity, and unwavering loyalty will live on through all who knew and loved him. He cherished watching sports, cooking, and sharing good meals with friends and family. He loved the quiet, ordinary moments. He could fix anything and was often called upon by friends and neighbors to help fix or repair any household items, appliance or automotive equipment. He was mostly proud to be a provider for his family and expressing daily how grateful he was for the life he had built. He dreamed of retiring in Florida and continuing to cruise around the world. Cruising was his greatest escape—his favorite way to unwind, explore, and feel free.
Raffaele was a man of proud inner courage. His journey of resilience and renewal continues to inspire all who were blessed to have known him. He recently became a certified recovery coach and planned on retiring and guiding those on their journey of recovery.
His passing leaves an immeasurable void in the hearts of his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him. Yet his memory will continue to guide, protect, and inspire those he loved. He would want everyone who knew him to carry on by living life fully and with purpose.
May Raffaele rest in eternal peace.
Forever in our hearts.
