Obituary

Peter Alexander Udovidchik passed away on December 16 at the age of 81 in Bay Ridge Brooklyn, NY.

Peter was born on May 11 th , 1940 in Pinsk, Belarus and was raised by his father Alexander and mother Maria. It was a difficult time to grow up as WWII was underway and the German army occupied Belarus. He had an older brother, a younger brother, and a sister. From early on he had a passion for flying and as a teenager he built an airplane with his brothers from war plane remains they would find scattered about.

When he graduated high school, he spent some time working on a boat and then moved to Lvov, Ukraine to pursue a technical degree. Upon graduation, he was accepted to a prestigious Peter the Great St. Petersburg Polytechnic University, which he graduated from in 1970 with Highest Honors with a Masters degree in Engineering.

Upon graduation, he took his first job leading a metallurgical research lab in Saratov, Russia where he met his wife, Raisa. They fell in love and got married a year later in August, 1971. A few years later they moved to Minsk, Belarus to start a family. Peter took a job working at the Belarussian Polytechnic Institute, where he contributed to the intellectual property over the years and holds over a hundred patents. Outside of work, Peter spent time with his wife and kids. He loved the outdoors, fishing, gardening, listening to music, and home projects. He taught himself how to play an accordion and wrote poetry in his young years. Peter was a man of many talents.

In 1993, after the collapse of the Soviet Union, he moved his family to the US to build a new life.  After just settling in the US, Peter lost his eldest son, Kirill. Even in the face of such difficulties, he continued to push forward coping with loss and trying to build a life now for a family of four in a new country. He was not a man of many words but cared deeply for the people close to him and would listen to them intently. He was always happy to lend a helping hand. Peter was greatly supportive of intellectual and artistic endeavors his children or grandchildren embarked on. He enjoyed sharing his fascination of how things work with his children and grandchildren.  Peter has taught all his grandchildren who were old enough to ride a bike and could spend hours playing chess with them.

Dementia had taken a lot of the joy out of Peter's life in recent years, but he is now at peace.

Peter is survived by his wife Raisa, his children Alesya Sentypal and Natalie Mazer, and his grand-children Sebastyan, Filip, Evelina, Isabella, Elliott, and Leo.

Due to COVID, immediate family service to celebrate Peter's life will be held at Clavin's Funeral Home 7722 Fourth Ave Brooklyn, NY 11209 on Wednesday, December 22. Visitation from 12 noon to 2pm, with memorial service 2-2:30pm.
