Obituary

Peter B. Sullivan Sr. of Bay Ridge, Brooklyn died on November 9, 2023, in Brooklyn New York. He is survived by his children Jennifer M. Sullivan, Peter B. Sullivan and Kevin B. Sullivan; his former wife Irene,  his son-in-law Michael, his seven grandchildren Owen, Lucy, Warren, Aryn, Jonathon, Anne and Teresa, his beloved brother Daniel and sister-in-law Catherine; former in-law MaryAnne Ford and his nieces and nephews: Miriam, Michelle, William, Jacqueline, Ruth, Elizabeth, Rebecca, Desi, Megan, Daniel, Brian, Regina and John as well as many grand nieces and nephews and untold numbers of friends. He succumbed to metastatic cancer at Hamilton Park Hospice after learning of his terminal condition the week before.

Peter B. was born on October 6, 1939, to Daniel and Beatrice Sullivan in Brooklyn, NY. He was predeceased by his beloved eldest child Jeanine, beloved sister Joanne McNamee, beloved grandson Peter, and former in-laws Sr. Ita Ford M.M. and Bill Ford.

Peter attended Saint Ephrem's Grammar School and Fort Hamilton High School. He then embarked on a life of Service to his country, city and community.

Peter enlisted in the Navy and served in the Pacific fleet on the USS Oriskany. Sailing the Pacific was one of his greatest joys. He served four years and was Honorably Discharged.

Peter then joined the New York City Transit Police. He served bravely in Coney Island during some tumultuous times and received commendations for his work. He then transferred to New York State Supreme Court and became a Court Officer, rising to the rank of Part Captain. He then achieved the position of Senior Court Clerk and served in Part 42 Narcotics Division under The Honorable Joan B. Carey. He retired in 1994 and enjoyed his passion of golf with many friends and colleagues.

Known affectionately as "The Mooka-Sookee Man or Uncle Pepe," "Uncle Peter" was always entertaining his family's children to their delight. He was a quintessential people person, always smiling and greeting all those who crossed his path. He was an avid sports fan; a seasoned traveler and a great amateur photographer. Peter's artistic eye in photography was valued by his family and friends. His photographs adorn many living rooms and family photo albums alike. He was great at a party, whether he was hosting or attending- he was the life of the party wherever he went.

Peter was also a devout parishioner at St. Ephrem's for many years. He coached baseball and then assumed the responsibility of Commissioner of St. Ephrem's Baseball and Softball leagues. He was loved by all the players and even some of their parents.  He was instrumental in acquiring and building the baseball field located on 92nd street and Shore Road with other dedicated people from St. Ephrem's at the time.
Peter B. Sullivan Sr will be greatly missed- but in great Irish form, will always be celebrated. In honor of his wishes, a short service will be held at the Chapel at Green-Wood Cemetery, 500 25th Street, Brooklyn, NY on Saturday November 18th at noon and his remains will be returned to the sea at the location of the USS Oriskany in Pensacola, Florida.
