Obituary

Nicholas LaForte was born on September 19, 1952. A year his youngest daughter Anna always referred to as "the 1952s."

He lovingly went by Nick, Nicky, Dad, Pops, Uncle Nick or Papa Nick to everyone he knew, except for his sister JoAnne, who called him "my baby brother" up until the end. Born to Tess & Nick LaForte in Bensonhurst, Brooklyn. As a teen he trapped the neighborhood burglar behind the front door until the police came, which impressed the local mob boss so much he tried to recruit him.

Nick was a lover of art, music, beauty & New York.  He would tell his children "Punk music started in New York. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise". He could tell you about all the architecture in Manhattan. He loved walking the streets telling you what used to be here, when and what happened there, schmoozing with the guys at the bodega or the waitresses at the diner.

Nick worked in the used clothing business for years. He loved a good stich and owned a store call Rag Time in 1980's. Andy Warhol once complimented him on a front window he designed.

Nick's love of his family was only rivalled by his love of food. He once told his daughter, "I love everything about food. I love reading about, talking about it, shopping for it & making it." Cooking was his hobby and creative outlet, as any person who got to enjoy his distinctive style in the kitchen will attest. He even made a vegetarian reminisce about roast beef sandwich he had made years prior. He would often say to his family "everyone in this room, I know how to talk to their stomachs".

Nick met his wife Jeanie almost 35 years ago. One their first date the placemat read, "Dragon marry a Monkey late in life", and he did.  She was by his side until the very end. Family was everything to Nick. He had so much love for all of them.

Nick LaForte is survived by his wife Jeanie Flewell. His children, Nicole LaForte, Jackson LaForte & Anna LaForte. His sister JoAnne Gelb, niece Terry Arleo his nephews Joseph Cacciola & Leo Reilly and numerous great nieces & nephews.

Nick will spend eternity overlooking the koi pond in Green-Wood Cemetery. He will be sorely missed by everyone who knew him.
