Rev. Msgr. Austin P. Bennett, JCD, PA, KCHS, passed away on January 31, 2017 at the age of 93.  A native of Brooklyn, he was an alumnus of Our Lady of Angels School, Regis High School and the College of the Holy Cross.  He was ordained a priest in the Brooklyn Diocese in 1949 and later received his Doctorate in Canon Law from the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome.  He served the Diocese of Brooklyn for over 65 years in various capacities including Vicar for Administration and most recently as a consultant to the Bishop.  He was a member of many charitable boards including most recently Ozanam Hall and the Confraternity of the Precious Blood.  He celebrated mass at St. Rita's Church in Long Island City for over 40 years.  Serving people was his greatest love and he was known to have time for anyone who sought his counsel.  He is survived by nephew James B. Hamerschlag, James' wife Elizabeth, great niece Grace and longtime friends Sr. Joan Deering, Sr. Marianne Lopiccolo and Rev. Thomas Doyle.
