Obituary

Maureen Bridget Cashman passed away peacefully on September 2, 2024, finally reuniting with her beloved husband, Howard, with whom she shared over 50 years of marriage. Maureen is survived by her six children: Daniel, Maureen, Brendan, Deirdre, Dermot, and Kathleen. She also leaves behind a cherished legacy of 16 grandchildren and some great-grandchildren, whom she had the joy of meeting.

Maureen was a woman of extraordinary talents. Upon arriving in the States as a young woman, she began her career as an elevator operator at A&S, an old department store chain. Her innate charm and warmth allowed her to connect with people in fleeting moments, giving her a deep appreciation for the impact of a smile and a kind word. Her journey continued at the Angel Guardian Home, an orphanage where she found her true calling in making a difference in the lives of children. This passion led her to become one of the most respected science teachers at McKinley Jr. High School, where she blended discipline with compassion, touching the lives of countless students.

A devout member of St. Ephrem's parish, Maureen was actively involved as a choir member and a dedicated CCD teacher. Her faith was a constant source of comfort and inspiration. Her love for music, particularly the tunes of Burt Bacharach and Frank Sinatra, brought her immense joy. A favorite memory of hers was attending a Burt Bacharach concert, where she sat in the front row, her face glowing with happiness as she sang along to every song.

Maureen's legacy of love will endure through her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, growing with each new generation. Her spirit will continue to guide us, reminding us to cherish one another and to live with kindness and grace.
