Mary Lou Como was born in Brooklyn, New York on August 6, 1938 to Frank and Angela Como. She had one brother Dr. Nicholas F. Como. She graduated from Long Island University where she was a Journalism major. For several years she was a teacher in the NYC public school system. She became a teacher for the
U.S. Department of Defense where she taught the children of military personnel that were stationed overseas. Her career afforded her the opportunity to live all over the world. She was stationed in Bermuda, Spain, France, and Germany. It was at the Officer's Club on a military base in Germany where she met her husband and my father Dr. Edgar Schweikert who was a Captain and a dentist in the German Airforce. She taught for the Dept of Defense for 8 years. When she became pregnant with her only child (that's me) her and her husband moved back to the U.S. Briefly they lived in California before returning to Brooklyn, N.Y. She then became the Office Manager for her husband Edgar's dental practice until she retired. She also was the editor of a book her husband wrote for dentists entitled "Multiple Cantilevers in Fixed Prothesis". She is survived by her daughter Marisa Schweikert who followed in her mother's footsteps becoming a teacher for the NYC public school system.
