Mary Larkin, 79, of Bay Ridge, Brooklyn, passed away on March 22, 2022 after a hard-fought battle with blood cancer.

She was born to parents Esther and Michael O'Loughlin on February 12, 1943 in Ennis, County Clare, Ireland.

An award-winning Irish step dancer, she came to New York at the young age of 18 and met James (Jim) Larkin on a blind date. They were soon married on August 31, 1963, and raised four wonderful children; Patricia, Michael, Terri and Erin.

Mary and Jim celebrated their 57th wedding anniversary this past summer.

In addition to her husband and children, Mary is survived by her sister, Eileen, and brother, Michael O'Loughlin. Sisters-in-law: Kitty Sullivan, Agnes Larkin and Jenny Larkin. Brother-in-law, Pat. Sons-in-law: Patrick and Kevin. Grandchildren: Alexa, Meaghan, Katie, Kyle, Clare, Quinn and Elle; and many nieces and nephews she loved dearly.

Mary was a beautiful, loving, strong, resourceful, and driven Irish lass. She always loved filling her home with friends and family, and hosting the most memorable parties and holiday celebrations (complete with her famous "mashed turnips"). And she always welcomed unannounced visitors with a cup of tea and some pastry.

Mary was a constant cheerleader and advocate for each of her children and grandchildren, always telling them they "could do anything they put their minds to." Her greatest joy came in watching them pursue and achieve their dreams. She loved music and singing her favorite tunes with her sister, and she will be remembered fondly whenever a John Denver, Neil Diamond or Eagles song plays.

Mary always cherished the many winters she escaped to Vero Beach, FL with her family. Never one to pass up a bargain, Mary could always be found at the local yard sales and thrift stores negotiating for the best deal. She always greeted you with incredible bear hugs that made you feel loved. But most of all, Mary Larkin was an incredible listener who could make you feel like you were the only person on Earth.

She was taken far too soon from this world. But her family and friends will forever keep her wonderful spirit in their hearts. Mary touched the lives of everyone she knew and loved. She will be deeply missed.
