Mary Sullivan Giles, Nee Thomas
July 31, 1930 to March 19, 2022
Mary Sullivan Giles of Bay Ridge, Brooklyn passed away on March 19, 2022 surrounded by her family following a brief illness.
With the exception of her early childhood, Mary spent her entire life in Bay Ridge and was an integral part of the neighborhood. A parishioner of Our Lady of Angel R.C. Church, Mary's kindness knew no bounds; her faith and generosity were evident in the joy she spread wherever she went.
Mary was known for being an avid member of community theater groups, creating many memorable shows and amazing costumes, including the annual production at the Atlantic Beach Club. Mary was proud patriot and enjoyed being part of the Bay Forts and the Ladies' Auxiliary of the American Legion Post No. 157.
Mary spent her later years working with the Guild for Exceptional Children, who she came to love as her second family.
Mary is predeceased by her first husband Joe Sullivan, her second husband David Giles, her brother Jack, and her sister Dorothy (Olsen). She is survived by her sister Helen (Crosby Donohue); her children and their spouses, Maryann and Elaine, Patrick and Whitney, Kitty, Robert and Bea, Elizabeth and Richard; her stepchildren David Jr. and Janet and their families; her grandchildren, EJ and Melanie, Jennie, Richie, Elizabeth, Patrick, Thomas, Mary Joe, and Grace; as well as many nieces, grandnieces, grandnephews, great-grandnieces, and great-grandnephews.
From the many words of wisdom, kindness and gratitude that Mary conveyed throughout her lifetime, the ones she embodied each day and would wish for each of use to embrace is "Always be good to one another."
