Mary (Marie) Fealy passed away peacefully on July 7th in her family home with loved ones at her side at the age of 87.
Her spirit is carried on by her beloved family and she is survived by her children, John and daughter-in-law Susan, Teresa, Patrice, Catherine and son-in-law John; her grandchildren, Timothy and wife Marisa, Sean and wife Briana, Keith, Chris, Meagan, Cara, Sheena and Bill;, and her great-grandchildren, Mason, Mayah, Shawn, Nathan, Denise, Emma and Giulia. Mary was predeceased by her late Husband John (Jack) and son-in-law Patrick.
Born and raised in Park Slope, Brooklyn, Mary grew up with her Irish immigrant parents who met in Brooklyn, James and Esther Dowdall. She is survived by her brother James and sister-in-law Mary Ann. Mary will now join her parents, her sister Catherine, and "brothers" Butch and Val who were raised together in the family brownstone in Park Slope. Mary took great pride in being selected to attend Bishop McDonnell High School, and then graduating with honors.
Mary raised her family with her beloved late husband Jack, and her parents in a two-family home in Bay Ridge Brooklyn, Mary cared for her aging parents and husband who all passed in that family home. After losing Jack, Mary wanted nothing more than to remain in that home, which, through her grit and determination did for the next 22 years!
Ever the homemaker, Mary spent her days ensuring all was right, always ready with a hot meal and running up and down the neighborhood to get supplies, stopping to speak with her many friends along the way.
Mary loved to travel with Jack, and kept a spoon collection of the many countries she visited over the years. After losing Jack, Mary would socialize with her many friends at multiple senior centers or enjoy laughs and a swim with her ladies at the YMCA. It didn't matter where in Brooklyn those events were, Mary would ride the bus and was proud of her reduced fare senior MetroCard. She focused on her grand-kids and the door was always open for family to come by for her company and cooking.
Most important to Mary was her devotion to her Catholic faith and her family. She never missed Sunday mass and often attended church daily. When she was no longer able to go physically to Church, she would watch on TV and receive visitors from the faith. The holidays were always the brightest for Mary, hosting Christmas Eve and filling everyone's hearts and belly's with laughter, food, and her unique Irish spirit.
Mary will be missed by all who were lucky enough to know her, and her special and unique legacy lives on through her faith, family and friends.
