Mary Carole De Bock, 83, of Brooklyn (Bay Ridge), NY passed away on 2/6/18 at her home in Brooklyn. A native New Yorker, born and raised in Bay Ridge Brooklyn, she was a woman of character, charm and perseverance. She loved the Arts and Sciences and had a passion for American History. She attended St. Patrick's Grammar School, Fort Hamilton High School and went on to Hunter College where she achieved a double Master of Art History and Education degree.  She met and later wed Florent De Bock in the 1950s and raised her only son, Mark, whom she adored. She travelled the world and later moved abroad to Germany for a few years for Florent's career. Mary was quite the wife, of a Financier, in Europe in those days. Unlike, her European counterparts, she was an outspoken career woman ahead of the times and could run circles around the boys club, and she did this with the utmost grace and dignity. When she returned to the US, she became a NYC Special Education Teacher in Fort Green Brooklyn. She gave her all to her students in this impoverished area, and later went on to other schools across NYC and retired from the NYC Board of Education after 40 years of service. A frequent visitor to the Met, the Frick and cultural venues across the US and Europe, she had many interesting stories to tell of the people and places visited.  She will be truly missed by all of those she touched.

Mary is predeceased by her loving husband, of 38 years, Florent De Bock, and her parents Caroline Murray (Morris) and James Murray. She is survived by her son Dr. Mark S. De Bock, D.D.S, and daughter-in-law Carol A. De Bock (Kruger), her sisters Eileen Cavanaugh (Herbert Cavanaugh) and Janet Lynch (Richard Lynch) and her many nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her Aunt Miriam Morris.
