Mary Ellen Carey (née O’Leary) passed away peacefully on July 20, 2026, surrounded by her loving family. 

Mary Ellen shared more than 60 years of marriage with her beloved husband, George Carey. She was a devoted mother to Joseph Carey (Kimberly) and a proud grandmother to Thomas and Grace, who brought so much happiness to her life. 

Mary Ellen was a dedicated Registered Nurse who took great pride in caring for others. She spent most of her nursing career at Victory Memorial Hospital, where her compassion, kindness, and commitment to her patients reflected the values she carried throughout her life. 

She also treasured summers spent with her family in the Hamptons, where many of her happiest memories were made. It is especially fitting that she will be laid to rest in Southampton, a place that always held a special place in her heart. 

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to Calvary Hospital in Mary Ellen’s memory, in gratitude for the compassionate care she received during her final days.
