IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Mary Jane
Breen
February 7, 2026
Mary Jane Breen (née McLoughlin), age 94, passed away peacefully on February 7, 2026, in Brooklyn, New York. Born on May 28, 1931, in the Bronx, New York, she lived a long and meaningful life rooted in faith, family, and service.
Mary was the beloved daughter of Thomas and Catherine McLoughlin. She was preceded in death by her devoted husband, James S. Breen. Together they built a strong and loving family that continues to carry forward their legacy.
A proud Matriarch of the Breen Clan, Mary is lovingly remembered by her sister Margaret Gale; her sons Tom Breen, Jay Breen (and his wife Kathy), Steve Breen, and Rob Breen; her grandchildren Adam Breen, Sean Breen, Dylan Breen, Liam Breen, and Ryan Breen; her great-granddaughter Taylor Basil; and her great-great-grandsons Tanner Basil and Parker Basil & Great Grandson in-law Mike Basil. She also leaves behind her niece Cathy Bergamini; nephew Kenny Gale; great-nephew Michael Bergamini; and nephew-in-law Vinny Bergamini.
Mary's life was marked by deep devotion to both her family and community. A faithful parishioner of Our Lady of Angels Catholic Church in Brooklyn, she found strength and purpose through her spiritual life. Her commitment to service extended beyond the church walls—she was an active member of the Salvation Army Home League and volunteered generously with their programs.
Throughout her life, Mary embraced roles that brought people together. As a Den Mother for local scouting groups and a chaperone for Drum and Bugle Corps events, she nurtured young lives with patience and care. Her presence was a steadying force at countless gatherings—whether organizing community activities or simply offering support from the sidelines.
Mary's warmth touched generations. Her home was a place where stories were shared across decades and where traditions were passed down with pride. She will be remembered not only for her enduring love but also for the example she set as a woman of faith, resilience, and generosity.
May her memory bring comfort to all who knew and loved her.
