Obituary

Margaret Ellen (Peggy) Michaels passed away peacefully on April 20, 2020, after courageously battling a number of chronic health issues for over 20 years.

She was born on January 23, 1958 in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn, NY to Betty and Bob Michaels, the third daughter of four.  She lived most of her life in Bay Ridge.  She graduated from Notre Dame Academy High School, Staten Island, NY, The College of the Holy Cross, Worcester, Massachusetts, and St. John's University Law School. Her legal career was cut short by her illnesses.

When someone you know passes after a lengthy illness, we tend to remember the illness and not the person she was before the illness.  That is different here – she was who she was, and her subtle yet biting wit, her courage and acceptance of her life on life's terms, her deep knowledge in a variety of fields, including genealogy, English and American History, classical choral music and her love and loyalty to her family and friends, especially her beagles, is what we will always remember.

We will all miss her – her family: her sister and roommate Virginia; sister and brother -in -law Cathy (Stein) and Eric; sister and brother-in -law Mary Pat (Messina) and Paul, her niece Sarah Stewart and husband John, her nephew, David Messina, as well as her furbaby nieces and nephews:  Holly Stein; Diesel and Mishka Messina; Quill and Inky Stewart; and of course, her many friends.

A memorial Mass and a celebration of Peggy' s life will be held this summer.
