IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Margaret A.
Reilly
December 7, 2025
Margaret Reilly was born on July 26, 1928 in Roslea, County Fermanagh, Ireland. She was the youngest daughter of a large family. In 1950, she emigrated to the USA, together with her cousin, to seek a better life and to pursue an education. She first lived in Newport, Rhode Island, with her brother, Tom, and his family. After working and saving money, she moved to New York, where she continued to work.
She met her husband, Thomas F. Reilly, at a dance at the Tuxedo Ballroom in Manhattan. They married in 1955. Both as a wife and as a mother to her 5 daughters, Margaret was extremely dedicated and loving. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren brought her great joy. Her sons-in-law and extended family, including cousins, nieces and nephews were also very close to her heart.
Always a very energetic person, Margaret was able to pursue her education while raising her 5 daughters. First she earned a Bachelor´s degree and subsequently two Master´s degrees. When her studies were completed, she worked as a teacher for about 30 years, mostly at John Dewey High School in Brooklyn. She loved her students and the students loved her as well.
She was always an avid church-goer, regularly attending mass at Our Lady of Angels for more than 60 years.
She remained active almost until the last day of her life – going for walks, going out to plays and art exhibits. This was only possible because of the untiring devotion and help provided by her youngest daughter.
She was well known in Bay Ridge and greeted all those she met with hearty good cheer. She brought light into every room she entered.
We will miss her terribly. At the same time, we are grateful to her for all the wonderful memories she gave us.
