Obituary

Lucy Napoli passed away peacefully well into her 100th year, leaving behind a life filled with loving family and friends. She was pre-deceased by her loving husband, Matteo Napoli, and her parents Caterina (Cicala), who was born in N.Y.C. in 1902, and Pasquale Schiavone. Lucy was the beloved mother of Mary Brannan (the late Jim) and Anthony Napoli (Judith). Much loved grandmother of Justin Brannan (Leigh), Danielle (Napoli) Moghadam (Rami), Benjamin, Gabrielle and Ilana Napoli. Adored nonna of great grandchildren Luca, Nico and Elia Moghadam. Survivors include her dear brother Ben Schiavone (Lucille). Lucy was predeceased by her dear sister Frances (the late Michael Ferrara), and brothers Rocco (the late Thelma), Salvatore (the late Loretta), Joseph (the late Janet), and Nicholas Schiavone (Molly). Her survivors include many loving cousins, nieces and nephews.

Lucy retired as a Principal Administrative Associate with the New York City Department of Finance, having previously worked as a bookkeeper in the old Pilgrim Laundry.  She attended Manual Training (aka John Jay) High School in Park Slope, later receiving her G.E.D.  Her belief in the importance of education was apparent in her tutoring of a neighboring child and her family who were new English speakers. Lucy's knitting of an enormous number of beautiful baby sweaters and hats was an ongoing personal project which she would gift to family members and friends or donate to local hospitals.

Lucy was a faithful congregant at Holy Name Church in Windsor Terrace, where she raised her family, and later at St. Athanasius Church in Bensonhurst, where she was at the center of a circle of many dear friends and neighbors. In her latest years, she received thoughtful, professional care at the Norwegian Christian Home and Health Center where she previously served as President of the Residents' Committee.

Whether cooking, baking holiday cookies, gardening, making up word games, playing board games or cards or watching Jeopardy or Wheel of Fortune, Lucy adored her grandchildren and great grandchildren, and will be sorely missed by all.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Lucy's memory to the Norwegian Christian Home & Health Center.
