Kathleen M. Tobin, a long time resident of Bay Ridge, Brooklyn, died Sunday, the 22nd of May, peacefully in her home.

Born in 1922 in Bay Ridge, Kathleen attended the Redemptorist parish school, Our Lady of Perpetual Help.  In 1937, Fontbonne Hall Academy opened its doors and Kathleen was one of its students.  Kathleen graduated in 1941 as a member of Fontbonne's first graduating class.  She also received the first religion medal conferred by Fontbonne Hall.  In 1987, on the occasion of Fontbonne's 50th anniversary, she was honored by her alma mater as a distinguished alumna.

After graduation, she attended Fordham University.  At the time, surprisingly, women were admitted only to the night school.  During the day, she worked for Guardian Insurance Company.  After the war, she married Peter Tobin, (her prom date), and together they raised eight children.

Since then, much of her life was spent caring for others, and her eight children.   Her kitchen was the center of her home and her children and grandchildren spent many hours together playing cards, listening to stories and drinking cups of tea.  She also enjoyed watching westerns, especially movies starring John Wayne.  She had a great devotion to the Blessed Mother and to St. Gerard Majella, the patron saint of mothers, and passed her strong faith on to her children and grandchildren.

She is pre-deceased by her husband, Peter Tobin, and her sons, Peter and Gerard.  Kathleen is survived by her six daughters:  Mary Ellen Baker, Anne Tobin, Kathleen Herron, Rosemary Tobin, Maureen Powers and Eileen Johnson; and her daughters-in-law, Kathleen Tobin and Angela Colavito; and her sons-in-law, Wallace Baker, Fred Herron, Robert Powers and Douglas Johnson.  She is also survived by 15 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. She was the center of a warm and happy home, filled with love and laughter and will be missed greatly.

Donations may be made to Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church (526-59th Street, Brooklyn, NY 11220), in memory of Kathleen Tobin.
