Kathleen Mary O'Connell Murphy
Longtime Resident of Brooklyn, New York
We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of Kathleen Mary O'Connell Murphy on July 2, 2025. She is survived by her loving family and friends.
Kathleen was the beloved wife of the late Patrick Murphy and was predeceased by her parents, Patrick and Mary O'Connell, as well as her brothers, William O'Connell and Patrick O'Connell (Audrey).
A first-generation Irish American, Kathleen was raised in her cherished Brooklyn, New York. She graduated from Fontbonne Hall Academy and later earned her law degree from St. John's University School of Law.
Kathleen had a deep passion for the law and found great fulfillment in her work as an attorney. She practiced alongside her husband Pat at their Wall Street firm, Murphy & O'Connell, using her legal skills to serve and uplift those in need.
She was also an avid reader and a thoughtful writer, contributing op-eds to local newspapers on issues close to her heart.
Her Irish heritage was a source of immense pride and joy—she and Pat made many trips to Ireland, and she found great happiness in her large extended family of O'Connell's, O'Driscoll's, O'Donoghue's, and Murphy's. In her younger years, Kathleen could often be found on the steps of St. Patrick's Cathedral during the New York City St. Patrick's Day Parade, followed by a grand celebration she so loved to organize with friends.
A devout Catholic, Kathleen's faith was central to her life. One of her most treasured memories was a pilgrimage to Lourdes, France, with Pat in 2005. She generously gave her time and talents to the Catholic Church and used her profession to advocate for those in need.
Kathleen inspired others by the way she lived—with passion, strength, and unwavering commitment to her family, community, and faith. She will be remembered for her vibrant spirit, her dedication to justice, and her deep love for those around her. She will be missed dearly and will remain forever in our hearts and memories.
