Kathleen Marie Garber of Brooklyn, NY died peacefully on Wednesday, May 10, 2017 in the company of her loving family.

Kathleen was born in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn and was the youngest daughter of Patrick J. Donnellan and Margaret Donnellan (nee Sweeney). She earned her B.S. at Hunter College and her M.S. at Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons. Her keen intellect and inspiring compassion for others were evident in her 40-year career as a psychiatric nurse – caring for patients in the Bronx, Manhattan and Brooklyn.

She was a devoted wife and partner to her husband, George, for 47 years and caring mother to her son, Daniel, and daughter, Alessandra. Her kindness and capacity for love were boundless. She was always willing to add another seat to the dinner table or lend a compassionate ear to someone in need. Kathleen was passionate about travel, literature, photography, art and, most of all, her family.

We will cherish the many years we were privileged to have her in our lives and remember and love her always.

As an alternative to flowers, the Garber Family is setting up a memorial fund with Weill Cornell Medicine for the purposes of funding Dr. Roger Härtl's research surrounding innovative and less invasive surgical and biological treatment strategies for degenerative diseases of the spine.
