IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Karen Noel
Tonnesen
April 23, 2023
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Karen Noel Tonnesen, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, who left us on April 23, 2023, at the age of 78. Born on December 15, 1944 in Windsor Terrace, Brooklyn. Karen embodied the spirit of a true New Yorker, with resilient personality and an unwavering love for her home city.
Karen spent over two decades of her life as the proprietor of Alton's Police Equipment Store in Flatbush, Brooklyn. She took over her father's business in her late 30's after he passed away. She loved her work and her customers as she knew she was helping to protect the NYPD and the city of New York.
But Karen's life was defined by her devotion to her family. She was the cherished wife of Russell Tonnesen, with whom she shared a lifetime of joy, laughter, and love. Together, they built a strong and loving family that will forever hold her memory dear.
Karen's greatest legacy is the family she leaves behind. She was a devoted mother to her children, Lori and Matthew, and stepmother to Kristin, Rhett, and Tor. Her love extended to her many grandchildren, including Nicole, Vincent, Alexandria, Anthony, Kristian, Davin, Ebben, Orrin, Leora, Henrik, Jacklyn, and Kyle. And her joy knew no bounds with the arrival of her great-granddaughter, Noella. It would be remiss not to also mention her love for her cherished dog, Kramer.
Karen was a bright light in the lives of all who knew her. Her strength, love, and sense of humor will be deeply missed. We take comfort in knowing that her spirit will live on in the hearts of her family and all who were fortunate enough to know her.
May she rest in peace.
