Josephine Santander, 89, passed away peacefully in her sleep on November 29, 2020.  She was born December 31, 1930 in Santander, Spain, the daughter of Esperanza Samperio Ruiz and Valeriano Gomez García.  She was predeceased by her beloved husband of 38 years, Manuel.  Josephine is survived by her brother, Manuel Gomez Samperio, and sister-in-law Sofia, and their family of Santander, Spain; her children Elizabeth Santander Greene, son-in law Steven Greene, grandson Paul Marks and his wife Crystal; son Raymond Santander and his wife Jeannette and their sons David, Francis and Samuel; son Robert Santander and his wife Lisa and their children Gabrielle, Robert John and Michael; oldest granddaughter Carla Dieppa and her husband John; and great grandchildren Isabella, Leo, and Zoe.

Josephine was a brave and heroic woman who survived the Spanish Civil War and the Franco dictatorship and emigrated to the United States in 1953.  She devoted herself to raising her 3 children, and later worked alongside her husband in the family retail stores.  She returned to school in her 40s and distinguished herself in her college work, and worked at Lutheran Medical Center for 16 years.  She was loyal and devoted to her family and amazingly generous. She provided for her family a tremendous example of courage, a never - give - up attitude, and love for family.
