Josephine Cashman, 95, lived in Bay Ridge her whole life, except for a brief stay in Park Slope as a newlywed.  Born on December 30, 1922 to John and Mary Lento, and the older sister to brother John, she was raised on 86th street between Shore Road and Narrows Avenue.  She attended Bay Ridge High School, which was closed in 1983.  After marrying her first husband, Joseph J. Kurek and their short stay in Park Slope, they moved to 7901 Fourth Avenue.  She lived there for over 60 years, until April 2018, when she moved to a nursing home in Westchester near her daughter.

She is survived by her daughter, Barbara Palmer, and her husband, John; son, Dr. John Kurek; grandchildren Matthew Palmer and Katherine Palmer; and sister-in-law Dolores Lento of Wilmington, Delaware.

Ms. Cashman was active in the Lutheran Medical Center Auxiliary and held various positions, including President and Nominating Committee Chair.  She also participated in St. Anselm's Young at Heart senior group, and was past president.  She was an accomplished oil painter.
