IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Joseph G.
Sayour
October 19, 1939 – January 21, 2025
Joseph George Sayour, born on October 19, 1939, in Brooklyn, New York, to Angele and George Sayour, passed away in his home surrounded by his loving family. A devoted husband, father, brother, uncle, Gido, and friend, Joe's life was a testament to love, faith, and generosity.
Joe was the beloved husband of 53 years to his wife, Marie. Together, they built a life centered on faith and family. He was a proud father to his three children: Michele (married to her husband, Rob Benacchio), Alex (married to his wife, Maura), and his sweet Renee, who recently passed away. Joe also cherished his siblings: his sister Marie Hilal (with her late husband, Fayiz), Richard (with wife, Jeanmarie), and Victor (with wife, Marie). Of course, his pride and joy were his three beautiful grandchildren: Layla, Kara, and RJ Benacchio. He loved them immeasurably and with all his "hearts" (an original Renee-ism).
Joe was a lifelong Brooklynite living in Bay Ridge. His schooling included St. Anselm's and Xavier High School. Joe's passions extended beyond family. He attended the University of Notre Dame and was a loyal ND football fan, often heard cheering "Go Irish!" as he watched his favorite team.
An entrepreneur at heart, Joe founded and ran several successful businesses, including "Nuts About Nuts," as well as "Sultan's Delight" which showcased his Middle Eastern heritage.
A devout family man and true gentleman, Joe touched the lives of everyone who knew him. His kind heart and steadfast values made him a role model to all. He was known for his warmth, infectious laughter, and talent as a storyteller, traits that brought joy to countless family gatherings. He was an avid reader, enjoyed golfing, playing cards with the guys, and placing bets at the craps tables. A talented artist, painter, and photographer, Joe found beauty in the world and shared it with others through his creative works, especially his scenic landscape oil paintings which illustrated his love of mountains and the countryside.
Joe's faith played a significant role in his life. In the 1970s, he was honored by the Catholic Church with prestigious papal orders of Knighthood. These included the Knight Grand Cross of the Holy Sepulcher, the Knight of Malta, and the highest honor, the Knight of St. Gregory, recognizing his deep commitment to his faith and community.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations to the Alzheimer's Association in Joe's memory, a fitting tribute to a man who gave so much to others.
Joe's legacy of love, kindness, and creativity will continue to live on in the hearts of his family and friends.
