IN LOVING MEMORY OF
James F.
Talbot
January 28, 1934 – June 24, 2025
James Francis Talbot died peacefully on June 24, 2025. He was born, raised and lived in Brooklyn (Bay Ridge) for 74 years before moving to Whiting, NJ in 2008 and then to Sunrise Assisted Living in North Lynbrook, NY in December 2021.
James was a loyal and caring son, brother, husband, father, uncle, friend and neighbor to many. He married his sweetheart, Genevieve (Jean) A. Kmiotek in 1960 and was married for 47 years before she passed in 2007. They had two children, Karen and Stephen, who predeceased both Jean and James. In his youth, James enjoyed playing softball with his son, Stephen, and was a member of the Bensonhurst Park Softball League in Brooklyn for many years. James enjoyed a wide variety of leisure interests including going to Broadway shows, was a true old movie buff, a fan of all sports, enjoyed bowling and playing golf and always had a big hello, a kind word and a positive message to share with everyone that he encountered.
James proudly served in the U.S. Marine Corps for two years (1956-1958). He was a devoted parishioner of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church (OLPH) in Brooklyn and found great solace as a practicing Catholic throughout his entire life. He was a 3rd Degree in the Knights of Columbus, a member of the Catholic War Veterans and Holy Name Society at OLPH for over 50 years. During his time in NJ, he became a parishioner of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church and, in 2015, was professed as a Vice Minister on the Executive Council of the Order of Secular Franciscans. James enjoyed an early career as a bank manager and then retired from the U.S. Postal Service in 2000.
James was born in Brooklyn in 1934 to Richard and Margaret (nee Mahoney) Talbot and is survived by his sister, Betty Jones, and predeceased by his sister, Alice Mullaly and twin brother, Richard. He is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, as well as his long-time companion, Sue Forbes. All will miss him dearly.
Jim's family would like to thank the wonderful team at Davita Dialysis Center and all of his friends and the amazing staff at Sunrise Assisted Living for making Jim a special part of their family. We are truly grateful.
