For the past 86 years, James Daskalakis enjoyed living in New York City. A child of the depression, he regaled his family with stories of shining shoes for troops in Sheepshead Bay, Mid-Wood High School in the 1940's, five-cent double-features at the movies, playing baseball in Florida for the minor leagues, jumping out of airplanes as a paratrooper and crazy exploits with his brothers. Jim owned an auto-collision business for many years. He had a great talent for fixing things and making them look brand new. His skill in this was magical to see. In addition to baseball, he satisfied his competitive streak in a bowling league, playing a high-speed game of ping-pong, beating everyone at pool, mahjong and gin rummy. In his later years, he loved beach days at Coney Island and the Rockaways or a dip in the pool. But most of all, he loved Annie. His wife and family were precious to him. He worked hard to give them a wonderful life, leaving them with many joyous memories. He will be dearly missed.
