Hugh Coyle passed away peacefully on January 30, 2025 at the age of 91. Hugh was born in County Donegal, Ireland to William and Sheila Coyle. He was one of eleven children. He emigrated to the United States in 1955. He met, and later married Kathleen Joyce in 1959. They were blessed with four children, twelve grandchildren, and three great grandchildren.
Hugh was a great Gaelic Football player and was the star of the GAA National Championship teams in '53, '54, '55. In 1964, he had the honor to be selected to play on the GAA of Greater NY's World Tour team, which competed in 20 cities around the globe.
Hugh worked as a longshoreman and for the NYC Parks Department. He enjoyed time with his family, soccer, fishing, and traveling the world.
He was predeceased by his parents, brothers Joseph, Connell, Owen, Patrick, Liam, and Michael, and his sister Margaret. He is survived by his wife, Kathleen, his children Maureen Campbell (Ed), Eileen Tice (Kerry), Daniel Coyle (Ana), and Kathleen MacLellan (Bruce). He was a proud grandfather to Tara, Eileen, Megan, Bridget, Liam, Lauren, Brittany, Daniel, Margaret, Caroline, Connell, and Hugh. He enjoyed his great-grandsons, Steven, Kane, and Nolan. He was looking forward to the birth of his first great-granddaughter in May.
He is also survived by his brother, Daniel, and his sisters Nellie Galway, and Grace Coyle in Gweedore, County Donegal Ireland. He was adored by many nieces and nephews on both sides of the Atlantic
Hughie will be remembered for his wicked sense of humor, love of family and friends, and most importantly his devotion to his wife and soul mate.
