Helge Henricksen was born in Brooklyn, New York on April 1, 1953 to Kristi and Kristoffer Henricksen. Growing up on 79th street in Brooklyn, he became big brother to John, Roy and Karen. He was a member of the boy scouts, a strategic chess player, and an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed anything from camping to skiing. He went to and graduated from Fort Hamilton High School in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn.
Always adventurous, he backpacked across Europe carrying a book from country to country, tearing the book page by page just to lighten the load. He traveled cross country with friends and jumped at any exhilarating opportunity that crossed his path...literally.
Working alongside of his father as a machinist for Silent Hoist and Crane Co., he picked up a few tools of the trade. Instead of operating lathes, he joined Consolidated Carpet, delivering at first before becoming a carpet layer in his twenties. Helge, otherwise known as Doc by most of his colleagues, was a hard worker. He was always early and always showed a strong work ethic.
As much as one could describe him as a hardworking craftsman, he could be equally described as a loving family man. He met his wife Debbie through a mutual friend in 1986. They married in the summer of 1987 and five years later, they welcomed Jessica Joan, their pride and joy into the world in June of 1992. Always their number one provider, supporter, and cheerleader, Helge was an extremely proud father and husband.
He leaves behind his wife Debbie and his daughter Jessica. He was a loving brother to John, Roy, and Karen. The most beloved brother-in-law to Lorraine, Lisa, and Anthony. He will greatly be missed by his nieces and nephews who will always remember him for his sense of humor, his words of advice, and his simple yet loving demeanor.
Our generous, thoughtful, and witty Helge will be missed by his family, former colleagues, neighbors, and friends. Helge will always be remembered as
"one of the best."
