Obituary
written by Helen's Daughter, Eileen Razzetti
Helen Fidurski was born December 29th, 1918. Her family settled in Floral Park, Long Island to raise their 3 children. Her brother Stanley, now deceased, was the oldest and then Helen and then Annette, now age 97, who resides in Old Greenwich, CT. Helen graduated from Belmont Grammar School and then Floral Park High School. Her first job was as a typist for an insurance company. She then met my dad at a Polish sponsored dance. He had just immigrated from Poland. They married and had an apartment in Flatbush, Brooklyn. As an only child, I was born in 1945 . In 1947 they bought a house with my Grandma Mary. I was 2years old when we moved to Bay Ridge. Helen lived here until 2021. She worked for the NYPD as the head of the police health insurance division. In this capacity, she trained and helped many people under her to grow and achieve their goals and potential.
She was always for the underdog in all aspects of life. She didn't have a lot but gave freely of whatever she did have. Never envious or jealous of others, she always took joy in others good fortune and truly wished them the best. She was a wonderful Mother and friend to me and Grandma, to her 2 granddaughters, Eve and Erin. When she could no longer take care of herself in December of 2022, I finally convinced her to move to my house in Annapolis, MD. She did so reluctantly, afraid that she would be a burden for Rob and me. She was a pleasure, not a burden and never forgot to thank us for taking care of her every night that she was with us. She enriched and filled our lives with humor, joy and endearing love right to the end. She was smart, loving and strong. If asked what it takes to live to 103 and 3/4, She would give a one-word answer repeated 3 times. "OVERLOOK, OVERLOOK, OVERLOOK!"
