IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Gloria
Perez
December 20, 2022
Sadly, today, a heart that gave so much, had no more to give, Gloria V. Perez, went to her rest, peacefully in her sleep at 11:54PM on 12/20
She was pre-deceased by her husband John, Sr., son Daniel and daughter Rosemarie
She is survived by her sons John, grandchildren Gina Marie Cuesta, Daniel Cuesta III, Giovanni Cuesta, John D. Perez, Grace Perez and Laura Perez and several great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and several extended family members
Gloria emigrated to Brooklyn in 1939 and started raising a family in 1957
Like many immigrants, she worked in NYC's garment district as a seamstress and hat maker
There she met a co-worker, Lydia Perez, who would introduce her to the love of her life, John Perez, Sr.
Together, they built a family adding a son in 1965 and burying a newborn daughter in 1966
Over the next 33 years, she worked tirelessly at his side supporting a fledgling business that would become one of the largest Minority Owned construction firms in NYC
She simultaneously "did the books", kept a household and prepared gourmet meals of great bounty and love to football players from Pop Warner to the NFL
Her dedication to family and her Hispanic heritage were proud, tireless and relentless
Her joy for life, family, generosity and connectivity to those around her was pure, boundless - always making a "pernil" w/black beans and rice for someone who didn't have time or the resources to do so for themselves
Her fried rice, yuca and maduros were also second to none...
Over the years, common people and people of great esteem feasted side by side at her table and referred to her as "their" mother, grandma, yaya, friend...
All you needed was to be kind and hungrier than you've ever been and you'd be ok
These qualities passed to her family and are a template for success that this world so desperately needs today
Please lift a glass and honor her memory, for another like her will not come this way again
Que en pas, descance...
