Gladys Kristensen Olsen, 82, of Brooklyn, New York, passed away on March 7, 2022.

Gladys was born in Brooklyn, New York, on July 20, 1939. She graduated from Bay Ridge High School. In 1960 she graduated from Lutheran Medical Center School of Nursing as a Registered Nurse, and worked as a supervisor in the OR at Lutheran Medical Center. She then earned a BS degree from Long Island University and a Master's in Nursing Administration from Hunter College in Manhattan.. She later became the Assistant Director of Nursing at King's County Hospital in Brooklyn. After raising her family, she returned to nursing at the Norwegian Christian Home and Health Center.

Gladys was married to John Arnt Olsen on October 6, 1973; they were married for 28 years. In her retirement, she enjoyed traveling with John to Norway and to Rowlands, PA where they spent most summers visiting with family and friends.

Gladys served for many years in a variety of ways at the Second Evangelical Free Church on 52nd Street in Brooklyn. She played the piano, taught Sunday School, helped lead the youth group and served at the senior citizen's monthly luncheons and at many other church events. She participated in women's retreats at Camp Spofford, NH, and Tuscarora, PA. For years Gladys volunteered making waffles for the senior citizens at The Norwegian Christian Home and Health Center.

Gladys was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, sister, and friend. She was a devoted Christian who loved well and served others with energy and enthusiasm.

Gladys is survived by children Paul (Lynda) Olsen, Carol (Paul) Stevenson, John (Michelle) Olsen, Barbara (David) Olsson, and Jane (Eric) Miller; she was "Yaya" to her grandchildren Jack and Luke, and "Nana" to Austin, Kelly, Jesse, Derek, Daniel, Julie, Mallory, Abigail, Jared, and Sarah; great-grandchildren Keller, Leif, Anja, Clara, Tessa, Eli, sister to Lilly (Kenneth) Bach, "Gagi" to niece Linda (Robert) Hansen, nephew Kenneth (Patricia) Bach, Susan Kristensen, Ellen (David) Cressman and Thomas Kristensen, and many grand-nieces and nephews.

Gladys is preceded in death by her husband, John Olsen; her brother, Thomas Kristensen; and her parents, Thomas and Elida Kristensen.

Visitation will be Thursday, March 10 from 2 – 4 p.m. and 7 – 9 p.m. Her funeral service will be held at Clavin Funeral Home on Friday, March 11 at 10:30 a.m. Burial will follow the funeral at Oceanview Cemetery in Staten Island.
