Gladys T. Amaya, age 72 of Brooklyn, N.Y., went home to be with the Lord on May 17, 2016. She was born in Argentina and traveled to New York where she met and fell in love with Luc Lucaj. She was the loving mother of Jessica McCafferty (Michael) and Thomas Amaya (Lisa); cherished daughter of Maria Antonia Arevalo Amaya and the late Tomas Amaya; dear sister of Maria Antonia (Mirian), Tomas, Sara, Santiago, Jorge, Juan, Victor Hugo, Gloria, and Anna Maria. She was the proud grandmother of Lucas Amaya, Liam McCafferty, Mason Amaya, and Penelope McCafferty.
Gladys had a kind heart and devoted her life to her family and helping her community. She was very talented and loved to sew, knit, crochet, paint, quilt and cook. Since 1995 she worked for the NYC Department of Parks and Recreation at Sunset Park Recreation Center and Fort Hamilton Senior Center where she worked with children as well as seniors. Gladys had and endless desire to help others. She will be greatly missed and never forgotten.
