Ms. Gertrude Agoglia, a lover of faith, education and family died December 12th, 2021. Gertrude received elementary education at St. Thomas Aquinas School on 4th Avenue & 8th Street in Brooklyn. Upon graduation, Gertrude received the General Excellence Medal in 1943. High school found her actively engaged at Bishop McDonald memorial High School on Eastern Parkway in Brooklyn. Her 4 years here found her an active member of the band where she played her clarinet. Her involvement in the Religion Club showed her helping to make pads for cancer patients at the St. Rose of Lima Residence and at St. Charles Hospital meeting with crippled children. She then attended St. Joseph's College where she majored in sociology and took many courses in early childhood education. First in 1951 she discovered her love for teaching kindergarten classes in the New York City Public School System. Her piano lessons throughout her elementary and secondary school kept her competency alive and the children singing and dancing. Her Master's Degree from Fordham University earned her an Administration Degree as she soon became an assistant and then the formal principal of Public School 124 on 4th Avenue and 14th Street in Brooklyn. Attending parades, singing at the news building became part of what the children enjoyed. Their love of reading and love of education was most important in their lives. And so we say farewell to a beautiful lady.
