Emily Palermo began her new year in heaven. She passed from this earth from her Brooklyn home on January 1, 2021 at the age of 86.

She was born on Messerole Street in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, the last child of Dominick and Rose Beatrice. She is preceded in death by her parents and her older siblings, Albert, Arthur and John Beatrice, Catherine Minardi, Gilda Jaeger and Marion Venturelli.  She is survived by her older sister, Rose Muccio and many nieces and nephews.

Emily was married to Anthony Sanseverino, who always affectionately referred to her as "Gracie" from the comedy duo of Burns and Allen, as she was always saying something comical and a little naive.  She was the mother of Nancy Sanseverino Liatsis and her son-in-law, John Liatsis, and Anthony Sanseverino and her daughter-in-law, Tina Sanseverino.  She was grandma to Maria Ferrer, Dana Chesnut, Paul Liatsis, Anthony Liatsis, Anthony Sanseverino, Victoria Sanseverino and Cody Rodriguez.  She was great-grandma (Gigi) to Leah, Olivia, Luke and Stella Liatsis, and Jayelle, Adrian and Johnathan Ferrer.

In 1960, the tragedy of her husband's shocking death at age 27, left her a 26-year old widow with 2 children. She devoted herself to raising the children and working part time in the clerical field.  She was a widow for 35 years until she met Tom Palermo, and at the age of 62, re-married.  Emily and Tom were married for 14 years and then he passed in 2010.

Emily has been an animal lover since she was a little girl and contributes to several animal causes.  She has had several cats throughout her life.  Her first cat was named "Stinky." She leaves behind her beloved cat, Marty, who is 12 years old.

She loved to dance and listen to music and credited herself for her family's musical giftings.  She will be remembered as always wearing a hat.  Some of the things that she requested to be in her casket was a hat, her shopping bag with an umbrella and a sweater (she was ALWAYS cold)  and a box of Entenmann's pound cake!

Thank you, Mom/Grandma/Gigi for your life, love and devotion.  We will miss you!
