D'URSO, Emily (nee Korenika) on October 25, 2018. Beloved wife of the late Tony. Loving mother of Joseph (Sherry) and Anthony. Proud grandmother of Anthony and Johnny.
Emily D'Urso was born in Korte D'Izola, Italy which is now part of modern day Slovenia. She was one of 8 sisters and 2 brothers. Emily was raised in a loving, hard working, devoted Catholic family spending her childhood working on the family farm.
Emily wanted to better herself and at the age of 16, she responded to a local ad in the paper seeking much needed nurses. She worked 14 years as a nurse at Koper Hospital, a job she loved with great passion. In 1965, Emily married her beloved husband Tony and moved to Bay Ridge, Brooklyn where she spent the rest of her life living and loving America. She worked as a devoted homemaker raising her two boys Joseph and Anthony and keeping a very busy daily routine. After her husband passed away, Emily began working as a lunch aide at the NYC Dept of Education PS 102, retiring at the age of 79. Emily always enjoyed the school children and her many coworkers.
Emily loved to walk everywhere and loved going to the beach, spending many summers on the sands of Coney Island. She always spoke her mind and never minced words. Emily will be remembered as a devoted wife and mother and a hard worker.
