MARAVEL, Elaine—Elaine passed away peacefully at the age of 100 years old on September 20, 2018 and is now with her beloved parents and sister Mary Kappakas (Evangelos) and brothers August (Margaret), William (Ellen), and George (Amelia). She was a loving aunt to Marianthe Kappakas, Elaine Kappakas, Joan Jones (Kappakas), George Maravel, Christina Maravel, Dr. Richard Maravel, Dr. Paul Maravel and the late James Kappakas and George Kappakas, as well as to many great nieces and nephews and godchildren. Elaine was born and lived most of her life in Brooklyn. She graduated from Erasmus Hall High School. During World War II, she volunteered with the Red Cross' Gray Ladies while her brothers served overseas. During her long career in business, she managed a salon in Manhattan and helped to run Maravel's Dress Shop in Bay Ridge. Elaine was also among the founding members of the Holy Cross Greek Orthodox Church. Her nieces, nephews and friends will always remember her love of the arts and literature, her sense of style, and her many trips to Atlantic City in later years.  But more importantly, they will miss her warmth and her wise, loving counsel.
