With heavy hearts we announce the death of Edward Patrick Gallagher, 81 of Brooklyn, New York. Eddie passed peacefully on Tuesday, September 1, 2020. He is survived by his daughter, Linda Gallagher Reusch of Southlake, Texas, and his son-in-law, the late Michael Reusch, his brother, John Gallagher and sister-in-law, Una Kelly Gallagher and his sister, Mary Gallagher Alban and brother-in-law the late, John R. Alban. He is also survived by his 4 beloved grandchildren Jack, Ryan, Desmond and Edie Mae Reusch and many nieces and nephews.
Born March 31, 1939 in Brooklyn, New York, he was the son of the late John L. Gallagher and the late Theresa Sammon Gallagher. As a young boy Eddie worked in Smiley's fruit and vegetable market in Park Slope. Edward served in the United States National Guard beginning in 1958. A dedicated police officer, he began his career in the New York Police Department in June,1961 and retired from service in February,1984. As a descendent of counties Galway and Leitrim in Ireland, he was very proud of his Irish heritage and traveled there often. During his time with the NYPD he was a member of the Emerald Society and Holy Name Society. After retiring, he continued his career at Chase Manhattan Bank, in New York City. Edward enjoyed spending time with family, strolling and bicycling in Bay Ridge. He was an active member of St. Andrews the Apostle Church in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn.
