Donald M. Cole "Donnie" on Good Friday, March 30, 2018. Born on March 17, 1946. Loving son of the late Harold and June (nee Loftus). Beloved husband and best friend of nearly 45 years to Jean M. (nee Clavin). Devoted brother to Jane Reid (Bob) and Mary Cole-O'Rourke (Gary). Proud uncle to many nieces, nephews and a friend to countless others. Graduate of St. Anselm School, Fort Hamilton High School in Brooklyn, NY and "University of Science, Mechanics and Culture" (U.S.M.C.) in Parris Island, SC. A patriot who served as a sergeant in his cherished United States Marine Corps from which he was honorably discharged after two combat deployments to Vietnam. Upon his discharge, Donald joined the NYPD serving as a police officer in multiple commands in Brooklyn and later as a detective for the New York Drug Enforcement Administration Task Force assigned to the Office of Drug Abuse Law Enforcement (ODALE) directly under President Richard M. Nixon. Donald was a "cop's cop" and upon retiring from the "finest" job in the world, which he had a profound love for, he and Jean began a career together as restaurateurs and proprietors of the former Tun's Tavern in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn, Kate Cassidy's Pub in Rego Park, Queens and Paddy McGinn's Pub in Huntington, Long Island. Later in life, he retired for the final time to Juno Beach, Florida (Rancho Relaxo). Donald was a giant among men whose love for life, laughter, family and friends was unmatched. Amongst those he didn't know, Donald was blessed with the ability to care for them too with compassion, dignity and respect. He quite literally treated everyone the same way he wished to be treated.
