Donald Carey, 90, formerly of Garden City, New York, passed away Wednesday, May 25, 2022, in Clermont, Florida.
A successful veteran, businessman, husband, and father, Donald was born to the late Peter and Clara Carey on August 11, 1931 in Brooklyn, NY, as one of 8 siblings. As a young man, he served in the United States Marine Corps from 1951 to 1959, first as an instructor at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina during the Korean War, and then in the reserves. He attained the rank of staff sergeant and was awarded a National Defense Service Medal. With Frank McRoberts, he co-founded Lansdell Protective Agency in 1969, serving as its Executive Vice-President (1969-1991) and then its President (1991-2001) until his retirement. With his leadership, Lansdell grew to be the 24th largest security company in the country with its main office on Wall Street in NYC.
While Donald was proud of his career, his deepest love was for his family. In Queens, New York Donald met the love of his life, Louella Campbell (deceased 1981), and her daughter Regina. Donald and Louella wed in 1966, and they were blessed with three daughters, Jennifer, Allison, and Cindy. After Louella's passing, he lovingly raised his daughters and continued to nurture his family throughout his life. He was especially devoted to his daughter Cindy, who has special needs. Together they travelled the world, ate at fine restaurants, retired to Clermont, Florida, and enjoyed their many years together. He is survived by his daughter Jennifer, her husband Thomas Vigna and her three children, Thomas, Ryan, and Caroline; his daughter Allison, her husband Blyden Potts and their child, Chalaina Potts; his daughter Cindy Carey; and his step-daughter Regina Cazad, her two children, Valerie and Michelle, and their children.
There will be a wake on Wednesday June 1st at Clavin Funeral Home in Brooklyn NY, Funeral Mass on June 2nd at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Brooklyn NY. Donald will rest alongside his wife Louella at Holy Rood Cemetery in Westbury NY.
