Obituary

Dominic Richard Spero, 88, of Brooklyn, New York, passed away on July 20, 2026. Born on November 10, 1937, in New York City, he was the son of the late Nicholas and Mary Spero.

Dominic proudly served his country in the United States Air Force as a Radio Operator from March 25, 1957, to March 24, 1963, with tours of duty in Iceland and North Dakota.

Following his military service, Dominic worked as a sports reporter and DJ for KDIX television and radio in Dickinson, ND. He then moved back to NY in1963 and went on to serve as security for the Bedford-Stuyvesant Town housing project in Manhattan for several years. He later took a position in internal security with the New York Stock Exchange, where he worked for 32 years until his retirement.

Dominic had a lifelong passion for sports and was an especially devoted fan of the New York Yankees and the New York Knicks. Known for his kindness, he loved animals of all kinds and found joy in gardening and dining out. He was also known for his sense of humor and his love of making people laugh. He was well loved and will be deeply missed.

Dominic is survived by his beloved wife, Raphaele M. Spero, and his sister, Rosemary Crawford.

He was a loving father to Paula M. Wandler (Doyle), John R. Spero (Vilaiporn), and Traci L. Spero.

He was also a cherished grandfather to Amanda Koffler (Justin), Eric Koffler (Ashley), April Herrera (Luis), Savannah Brier (Levi), Celena Wandler (Dane), Elizabeth J. Spero, and Nicole J. Spero.

He is further survived by his great-grandchildren: Aiden Little Owl, Alexander Koffler, Gavin Koffler, Kalia Koffler, and Nicholo Herrera.

Dominic will be laid to rest at Calverton National Cemetery in Calverton, New York, on Thursday, July 30, 2026 @ 1:00 PM
