David D. Weatherington, 87, entered into Paradise on Thanksgiving Day, November 25, 2021. He was the beloved husband of Dorothy (dec) for 55 years. He is survived by his four loving daughters, Deborah, Ruth, Esther, and Elizabeth; five grandchildren, Nelson, Mercy, Magdalene, Matthew, and Alyssa; two great granddaughters, Madison and Ava, and two step great grandchildren, Jason and Gracie. David was born in Tulsa, Oklahoma on June 9, 1934 to Lloyd (Roy) and Bonnie Jean Weatherington. He was an only child. Later, due to the Dust Bowl, the family relocated to Columbus, Ohio. After his schooling, he enlisted in the US Coast Guard in 1954. He received the rank of Seamen in 1956 and was awarded a National Defense medal. His term ended in 1958. He was transferred to the reserves and his Honorable Discharge certificate was awarded on June 28, 1962.
He met the love of his life, Dorothy, at the Baptist Temple, a church he happened to be visiting. He was looking for a good church and a friend suggested the Baptist Temple since he was stationed in Brooklyn. Little did he know it was divine intervention at work and he found more than a good church there. It was love at first sight and they married on June 13, 1959. They started their family right away and raised their four daughters in Brooklyn, NY. He worked hard to support his family. Some of his jobs included working for The American Bible Association and later at the Navy Resale. He retired after twenty-five years in 1996. He received an Award for never taking a sick day. During this period, his favorite past time was photojournalism. He worked freelance for the Christian Enquirer as an investigator, photographer, and journalist. After his retirement, he became a school bus driver for the Brooklyn City School District for several years. He was a member of the Baptist Temple for over 50 years, where he served as a deacon, trustee, and chairman of the board. He also served in many youth ministry programs.
But most importantly, he was a true man of God. A true believer who loved the Lord with all his heart, mind, and soul. He was not afraid to share the Good News of Jesus Christ with anyone. He was a simple man who loved to learn anything and everything he could about the Word of God. If you ever had a question about the Bible, he knew exactly where to go to get the answer. He always lived by example, knowing that he had to answer to a Higher Authority, and he did not take that responsibility lightly. Dad, thank you for always being such a good example for us.
You will be missed terribly, but we know exactly where you are, in the arms of your Lord and Savior, whom you loved and faithfully served. Until we meet again, we love you Dad, always and forever.
Your Girls....
