Obituary

With deep sorrow and abiding love, we announce the passing of David J. Colgan, who passed away on May 19, 2026 surrounded by his loved ones.

Dave was born on June 9, 1960 to Catherine “Mama” Colgan and Thomas Colgan in Brooklyn, NY. As the youngest of 12 children, Dave loved the extra attention from his older siblings. Dave loved growing up in Brooklyn. He especially loved the close-knit neighborhood feel of Park Slope where everyone knew one another and every block held a memory.

Dave was a retired New York City Firefighter. He had a respected and honorable career, and made life long friends. Dave was a hero and his immeasurable commitment to duty was reflected by serving at 9/11, even as a retired fire fighter. Dave’s sense of integrity, courage, and service to others will forever be honored.

Affectionately known as “Davey”, “Slapshot”, “Unc”, “Cuz” and “Bro”, Dave had a one-of-a-kind sense of humor and a remarkable ability to connect with people wherever he went. His friendships-whether newly made or decades old-were lasting and genuine. Dave found happiness and joy in the simple pleasures of life. He loved spending time with his family and especially his grandsons, James and Liam.

Dave is lovingly survived by his beautiful wife Rose Colgan; his precious daughters, Caroline Jordan and Diana Colgan; his son-in-law Jim Jordan and and his two cherished grandsons, James and Liam Jordan. Dave also leaves behind his siblings, Thomas, Michael, Peter, Betty, Diana, and Janet, as well as many nieces, nephews and extended family members. He also has many golf buddies and dear friends who will forever hold his memory close to their hearts.

Dave will be remembered for his incredible loyalty to his family, his amazing sense of humor, and love of golf. He will be profoundly missed and his legacy will live on in all who were fortunate enough to know him.
