IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Daniel Robert
Mcglynn
December 26, 1947 – January 6, 2026
Daniel Robert McGlynn passed peacefully, surrounded by his beloved wife and daughters, on January 6, 2026, at the age of 78.
Born on December 26, 1947, Daniel was a Bay Ridge, Brooklyn native who grew up in a household that valued learning, discipline, and curiosity—foundations that shaped his lifelong devotion to knowledge. A man of extraordinary intellect and discipline, Daniel was defined by a deep and enduring commitment to learning. A proud member of the Class of 1965 at Brooklyn Technical High School, he skipped his senior year to begin college early and went on to attend New York University, where he majored in mathematics and later earned a PhD in physics. He passed the New York State Bar Examination prior to attending law school and went on to build a distinguished career as a patent attorney.
Over the course of his career, Daniel served as corporate counsel for companies including Symbol Technologies, Emcore Corporation, SolAero Technologies, and Rocket Lab. He was widely respected for his brilliance, rigor, and tireless work ethic, and he never stopped learning. An active member of the American Bar Association, International Bar Association, and New York Intellectual Property Law Association, he served in various leadership roles and regularly organized and moderated panel discussions that brought together leading voices from law, technology, academia, and public policy. His work explored the legal and ethical implications of emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence, data analytics, privacy, and the impact of digital systems on civil rights and marginalized communities.
In addition to his legal career, Daniel was a prolific author and early thinker in the field of computing. His numerous published works on microprocessors, data communications, and personal and small‑business computing contributed to the early understanding and adoption of emerging technologies. The depth and originality of his work led to invitations to guest lecture at universities abroad, including in China and Russia, experiences that deepened his intellectual engagement with the world and fostered his lifelong passion for travel.
Beyond his professional pursuits, Daniel was an avid traveler and passionate foodie. His boundless curiosity led him to visit more than 50 countries over his lifetime. In his later years, many of his travels centered around academic tours, including journeys to China, Mongolia, Russia, Uzbekistan, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Turkey, Ireland, and England. A former member of the James Beard Foundation, he meticulously kept journals documenting the many Michelin‑starred and top‑rated restaurants he visited around the world, blending his love of exploration with a deep appreciation for learning, culture, and shared experience.
Though quiet and naturally reserved, Daniel's inner life was rich and expansive. He expressed himself most fully through his ideas, his scholarship, and his steadfast presence for those he loved. Above all else, Daniel was a devoted husband. He was married to his beloved wife, Terezinha, for over 51 years, and adored her completely. Their partnership —marked by balance, mutual respect, and deep devotion— was the enduring center of his life.
Daniel is survived by his wife, Terezinha; his daughters, Tatiana Angela de Lima McGlynn and Natasha Danielá de Lima McGlynn; his grandson, Anthony Patitsas, and his wife, Jessica; and his great‑granddaughter, Katina Evonna de Lima Patitsas. He was predeceased by his beloved mother, Angelina Capone; his father, Commander Thomas McGlynn, U.S. Coast Guard (Retired); and his brother, James Francis McGlynn.
Donations in Lieu of Flowers
In lieu of flowers, the family welcomes donations in Daniel's memory to the Anti‑Violence Partnership of Philadelphia, a victim service agency led by his daughter, Natasha, that supports people impacted by violence and survivors of homicide. Daniel was deeply proud of her work and respected the organization's mission to provide trauma‑informed, victim‑centered services and help end the cycle of violence. The family is grateful to honor him in this way.
