Beloved wife of Antonio Emilio Amaral Coutinho for 59 years, loving mother of The Rev. Giselle Coutinho (Brian Slaugh), and grandmother of Adrielle and Benjamin Slaugh. Celeste graduated from Bay Ridge High School in 1948 and Hunter College Phi Beta Kappa in 1952. She was the Director of the Brazilian Institute at NYU working with scholars, poets, artists and diplomats. She worked for the Voice of America and believed in equal rights for women and all people. She loved spending time with her husband, cooking, and will be missed by nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends. Celeste traveled often to Brazil and Europe. Funeral Service is scheduled to be held on Saturday May 23, 2015 at 11:00AM at Clavin Funeral Home, 7722 4th Ave. Brooklyn, NY 11209. The family will receive relatives and friends at 10:00 AM.
